I'm writing a report on how an alien could survive on Neptune and I'm in the middle of a sentence. Which of these makes sence?
-The alien has a thick coat to keep ITS body warm.
or
-The alien has a thick coat to keep IT'S body warm.

Thx =)

"Its" - no apostrophe.

This is the possessive form. That means the alien possesses the body.

"It's" - with the apostrophe - is a contraction for "it is". If you ever have a question on this, read the statement with the words "it is" in place of its/it's, and see which makes sense.

The possessive form of it is its, no apostrophe. With all other words it is reversed (don't know why :)) Perhaps that's an idea for a question in the Education category?

ITS is correct (no apostrophe). Because if you were talking about a man or a woman you would say HIS or HER respectively. IT'S is an abbreviation of IT IS (always!).

ITS is correct. And 'sence' is spelled 'sense'

It's. The apostrophe shows ownership and can also mean the first word (it) and the second word (is). If you were to write it as its with no apostrophe, that simply means its is plural.

Why did you give good ratings to the incorrect people and terrible bad ratings to the people who are actually correct?

If my understanding of grammar is correct

It's ALWAYS applies to a living entity

Its applies to inorganic.
