Neither, tap water is absolutely disgusting and bottled water can't be trusted these days. I drink only RO Purified or distilled water. (I'm in the industry and can tell a lot of horror stories about tap and bottled water.)

american tap water ,,if from a chemically and microbe free source is likely,according to stats,,to be better than bottled water,,,,,,,,next time you go to the beach,put tap water in a steel or glass bottle instead of plastic,,,,if you get a cold,drink tap outa glass or steel bottle,,,,,the cold symptoms might improve without the bit of plastic chemicals that leach off during consumption,,,,,,,,,,(pthalates,,,,hydrocarbon alcohol,,,,,,,ethylene),,,,,,,,,,,,motor neuron disease sometimes improves because plastics are removed from pts favored drinking containers,,,,,,,,,,bottled or tap are same if source is pure & chemical free,,,,,,,,tap is cheaper,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,soldiers who (say a group if 100 fellas ( drink water from a 500 gallon former oil drum or a plastic tank thats never had anything but water in it will be ok except for 5 or 6 who react to the plastic

Tap. It's much cheaper, and you don't have to recycle the bottles.
