People don't want to waste time actually LEARNING things about candidates, that would require work and effort. They'd rather sit on the couch watching Wife Swap and eating Pringles.
Those who actually like politics and research candidates like ourselves and most of those who post in this section represent a very, very small fraction of the American voting public.
The media doesn't help, they make it seem as though all there IS are Democrats and Republicans. How often do you hear third party candidates in the media, much less the NAME of third parties ever mentioned? EIther that, or third parties are lumped in the "or independent" category. Sad, really.
Have never voted for a Dem or Repub in any Presidential election, and looks like that's how it will be again come November 2008.

They aren't chicken. They either think that the Dem or Rep. is the best option or they realize that the other parties are a small minority and will not get elected unless enough people can rally together, which is extremely unlikely, so they vote dem. or rep.

I happen to think that Bill Richardson would make a great president. Yes, he does belong to one of the two major parties. So what? I resent being called a chicken for having this opinion. I can't imagine any of the nobodys you're supporting doing a better job.

Thats easy...because the third parties don't have enough funding for their campaigns, so they can't get the message out. Another drawback for these third parties is they're either too far left or too far right. So they automatically lose votes from specific interest groups. For example, in a diverse society like the US, the far-right cater to specific groups of people particularly whites and christians so minorities will not support them.
Finally, I have a message for the people who only vote republican or democrat simply because either two will beat out a third party DON'T FU23ING VOTE or go to school!! You vote for who you want to win, not for who you think is going to win.

Not every voter. I voted Michael Badnarik last time, and Harry Browne several times before that. There were actually enough votes for Badnarik in my state that he was mentioned on TV, I was surprised at that. I thought he'd have to win to get mentioned.
