This is too powerful for general use, BUT that graphics card will not play demanding games at higher settings and resolutions but it will play them at low or medium at decent resolution depending on the kind of game. Very good memory, Very FAST processor, an AMAZING Lcd monitor, Nice hard drive although not the best, very DECENT sound card, you will get the performance you want in doing everything you want except playing demanding games..

It like most computers and should handle many applications running at one time. You can install Linux as a dual boot to learn other OS software. The Hard Drive is too large for my liking as it may require more seek time as it become full. I use dual 160 GB in a Level 0 RAID configuration. You could install another 250 GB HDD and do the same as what I have to speed up your access times. Other than that, I really not see anything that I would think need to be changed. Even without RAID it good for general use.

I recommend going one step up to the E6600 processor because it has 4 megs of cache instead of the E6400's 1 meg... faster. You will be able to do everything but the Radeon card isn't too good will limit you in the near future games. Should be a great machine.

That is more than required for general use. It is very fast, and with a Core 2 duo, one of the newer machines. 4GB ddr2 ram is exceptional, and more than the usual 1 gig in most machines of this type. Video card is superb, and the monitor being LCD will not cause your eyes to get sore even after many prolonged ours of looking / staring at it. You can do almost anything you want with this machine. (I wish I had it)!

That's a really fine station for general use. Looks good to me.

You might consider partitioning the drive to have space for experimenting with Linux or something like that.... at least I'd do that. It's nice to have a backup system when Windows gets hacked to death. :-)

you do not favor a 650W PSU tocontinual that config. The AMD Phenom X2 is an 80-watt CPU and that 9500GT is a puny little card that pulls 50 watts max. A 400W PSU is already plenty for that config.
