Reality.

"Reality is what we chose to believe" - that's rubbish. Reality is not changed by our thoughts - I can't will away the sun and moon. Truth is reality.

While in Japan, I asked a question to a Buddhist holy man 23 years ago. "Is what I believe true?" he asked me the same question. What is the truth? I replied the truth is that which is, was or will be, regardless of rather or not you know it, believe it or admit it. He said I was Buddhist. I told him no. I had only made up my own religion from what I had saw in life. He wrote me a note and dated it Nov. 3 1984. Half was in English and half in Japanese. When I got home to the states (UCLA) I found out that dialect of Japanese has been dead for hundreds of years. So who wrote that note on my 18 year old answer to "What is the truth?" I ask you what is the truth? I still have that note now framed and stored in a safe place. FYI the Japanese told me that there were no English words to translate this with and the note had been written by the "hand of God. this is Buddha, Jesus Christ all in one. Please leave now" And I could see the fear in their eyes from reading that note.

"Truth" is what is generally accepted within the norm of society that is considered to be established as a fact, rather than fiction. "Truth" also falls into several categories where religion is concerned, depending on what you believe in, or don't believe in. "Truth" is black and white, with no room for error.

In one book or another in The Bible, God says-- Generally spoken-- "If something is not one hundred percent truth, then it is a lie."

But, on the plus side, there's also stated something along the lines of, "You won't be held accountable for second-hand information; if what you've heard isn't exactly right, and you believe it's true, even if it's not, no fault is held against you." I guess that's where we're allowed to make mistakes.

*I am not preaching here; I could hardly be considered "religious", so what I state about The Bible in this Answer is based on study, and not necessarily belief.*

according to an economics teracher i had, truth lies between what i say happened, what you say happened, and that which is recorded by history. with some things the "truth" will never be known, the 2004 voting scandal, for example.

A generally accepted view of something. One generation's truth can become the next generation's lie.

Like darkness is only the absence of light, truth is only the absence of lies. Which generally means the absence of people.

Perception. Reality is what we chose to believe, or accept. Thoughts become reality. We move past time, time doesn't move past us. Therefor whatever we preceve to be reality at any moment will become truth.

Hence, truth is perception.
