Yes, strong wrists do help in speed. Try practicing your swings by keeping your elbows in closer to your body when you swing(helps a lot in power hitting too). You don't want to swing your arms way out, like your swinging to catch a butterfly or something. If your right handed, swing with your left elbow up high and follow through. Most home run hitters in the MLB use this type of swing. Also rotate your hips and pivot on your back foot for more power, this is not just for home run hitters but for hitting a ball with more force and farther. Hope this helps. good luck. DONT TAKE YOUR HEAD OUT OR YOUR EYE OFF!

you need to have your basic swing mechanics checked by somebody that is a batting instructor. if your mechanics are bad it doesnt matter how fast your bat speed is. My son sees a batting instructor and is really good. get good basic mechanics then do a lot of "T" work and soft toss. and of course work out or strength train. but batting is a lot of muscle memory. doing a lot of drill to work on your mechanics because when you are in a game you dont want to worry about your mechanics. game time batting you need to trust in the work you have done and let your natural instincts take over.

go to a batting cage and hit with a fungo bat or something thinner. It really helps your eye. You won't hit the ball far but you learn to make good contact.
PS don't swing at bad pitches

Bat speed is provided by your wrists. Those born with good wrists have great bat speed. You can, however, do some exercises with your wrists to improve the speed. The man who probably had the greatest bat speed of all time was Babe Ruth. This combined with being a big man made him one hell of a feared individual to opposing pitchers. Good luck to you.
