It varies. Telling the Germans where the Jews were hiding during WW2 would not have been the best thing.... it would have been better to lie and to help them hide. However, when going to a doctor and giving your medical history, honesty is always the best policy. There are very few things in life where there is one absolute answer to any question.

I think honesty married with compassion is the best policy.

When people use honesty as an excuse to be cruel and insulting then it pretty much takes all the virtue out of it.

It is the best policy for you to be 100% true to yourself BUT in the cases of others sometimes you have to reword the truth to spare fights and save hurt feelings. There's a line between lying and honesty, don't lie to yourself and be fair but kind to others which is where white lies come in.

Honesty in a relationship is critical. Otherwise you are pretending to be someone else and eventually the lies will catch-up with you. At that point you may be yourself, but the other person won't trust you anymore. There will always be the "little white lies" such has the Do you like this dress, how do you like this color, etc.

i believe to keep a close relationship with friends or partners, they key is complete honesty. with people you have just met, i don't think honesty is always the best way to go, as first impressions are lasting, and may require that you adapt your personality to the situation

OF COURSE HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY!!! If a person is honest, they can become better people because they will know their mistakes.

NO!!! it should be but due to mans collective fragile ego the Truth has become something that most people despise. some people prefer to hear only what they want and some actually are OK with being lied to so long as their feelings aren't hurt. the need for self-delusion runs deep in many people and is form of happiness and sanity for the weak.

We are fortunate to live in a society where even the poorest have enough to eat. But if I were a parent and I had a hungry child and I couldn't get work and there were no assistance programs available, I would steal to feed my child. Not to buy a SUV or a bigger house, but to feed my child. I have seen people abuse their employees or pay them slave wages so they could live the "big life", and it is all legal, but there will be an accounting eventually, whether you are a Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, or Hindu, these religions all teach an accounting for your actions of kindness or cruelty or greed

I think yes because' the person u told the truth will realize i could have told a lie.
For example: Robin breaks a flower pot.He tells his mom a lie and gets away with it and someone else gets in trouble.

Instead of telling a lie, Robin tells the truth and none gets in trouble. His mom forgives him.

Yes I do. Even if you know your honesty is going to hurt someone. It will hurt them more if they find out you were lying to begin with.

If you are lying, you have to make up more lies to cover your tracks. I'm not a good liar, so I try my best not to lie.
