Windows Authentication?

Question

A friend turns on his pc and when he tries to click any username at the welcome screen, he gets a message telling him to authenticate windows. If he clicks No, it just goes back to the login screen, and if yes, another window appears saying "Your copy of windows is already authenticated." Then if he clicks OK for that, he goes back to the welcome screen, and he's back to square one, and cant get into windows.
