unplug the tv and put it the garage. if you live in a house with other tv watchers get in the habit of spending time alone in another room. if there are multiple tv sets around reduce them down to one. Get the support of anyone you live with on this. If you have a tv in your bedroom remove it! find other sources of news and information like the newspaper or go online. Take on a new hobbie to distract yourself when homework isn't being done and stay out of the electronics department when you go shopping. lastly find a "no tv" support group or club to join. its easier to reach a goal with support from others. if you find yourelf being un able to resist watching set the sleep timer and once the tube shuts it's self off then thats it no matter what your watching.

Make a list of the programs that you watch in a week. Include all the filler, garbage shows that eat up your time. Add up the hours and circle the amount so it catches your attention.
Select 3 hours of programming that would nag at you if you missed it. You don't want to make turning the TV off a painful thing. There rarely are more than 3 hour-long programs that are really worth the time, so don't struggle if you come up with less than 3. Include news programs. They count.
Mark those programs on you calender and enjoy them when they come on, guilt-free. Just turn the set off before the next program begins. Go spend half an hour cybering about it, and be done until the next episode. Rate your satisfaction using a 5-star scale afterwards. This will help you to determine down the road if it was a good use of time or not.
Each week when the listings are published, review your previous week's viewing. You may decide to replace one show with another, or drop one entirely along the way.
You can go up to 5 hours a week if there's a special or sport you must see, but don't do it habitually, and always add it to your calender.
Get through a month, and you'll see you were caught in a web of distraction used to sell you useless things that help to keep you in your chair. Television is programing all of us to be good consumers, and it eats our time up which leads to frustration because we don't have the cash to get all the things we've been sold on. They're on to us commercial-zappers, too. The ads and previews for and during our most interesting programs have become as important as the program itself.
This is a good time to quit with the summer hiatus coming. Check out new shows before they premiere to get an idea if it's up your alley.
By the next fall season, you'll have trained yourself to view between 3-5 hours a week without shocking yourself, and you'll have accomplished a great deal more than you are now. You'll be more conscious of reality, at least so far as time is concerned. You can't just turn it off and be done with it without a plan for filling the void created. Change doesn't have to hurt.

Leave the room where the TV is, if you can't do that remove the TV where you do your homework. I quit cold turkey for almost three years. I do watch some now but very little. I even bought a new 32 inch HD/TV last year for my birthday in Sept. and didn't really start watching it until sometime in November. Once you quit you will be amazed how much free time you will have.
Good Luck.

Have the cable cut, don't have a TV in the common areas or your bedroom. Try to get together a study group. Get some interesting books from the library. I've been doing this for almost 6 months. I still watch the tube, but not on a daily basis. And....I don't miss it.

You can disconnect your Tv for a while . This will keep the memory don't worry. You should think of all the good things that will come of not watching TV and doing work. Think of the goals you will most likely reach by this not watching of TV

I'm not sure if your a boy or a girl. If your a boy and you just want to stop watching tv, then get a girlfriend. If your a girl and your just trying to stop watching tv, then get a boyfriend. If your trying to do homework insted of watching tv, then, and this may be hard, but pick up the remote control, point it at the tv, and press the on/off button. Then, pull out your homework, and do it!

Ah, I know what you are going through. I was addicted to playing video games before.
I suggest that you unplug your television and put it in an unaccessible place. Then, get someone in your house to make sure that you don't watch TV. At first, it will be hard without your TV. But after a few days, you'll forget about it and you won't want to watch it.

Treat yourself whenever you finish something. For example, write down everything you have to do and when you complete something, watch 30 minutes of TV or treat yourself to a snack. Don't just cut cold turkey or you'll give up, but reward yourself with the TV.

If it's nice outside, I bet you could do it. I have a study hall, so I don't watch TV after school. I usually don't watch TV until 8 or 9.
