Their penalties were a joke 5 games. I like that the coach and team got fined but Ignila should be sitting too. They even said that there was the $100,000 fine because of the illegal stick work and cross checking which Ignila did. And they let him slide just becuase hes a star for that team. He is a real class hero! And what a way to wear that C on his jersey.

Ignila jammed the but of his stick in ribs on purpose is intent to do harm it's not all about the cross checks. And yeah if chelios or Hasek did that they need to be suspended too. It's not one way!!!!

i agree. and whats 5 games to a back up? i mean 5 games is like how long som1 waits for a package in the mail.
they should have him fined $250,000. thats probably how much $$$$$ his team will make w/o him.

Try to sit back and be objective about it a moment. If it were Chelios and Hasek being suspended, would you feel the same way? Odds are you wouldn't. I think it was a slap on the wrist, too, but it is hard not to think that I am biased because of my loyalty to the Wings. I would like to see a few people come on here who can honestly say they could care less about either team and give their opinion.

Iginla did not swing his stick with a chopping motion into Franzen's chest, MacLennan did. If they suspend every player for a cross-check, there would be nobody left to play the games. His was a dirty play, no doubt about it, but dirty plays happen a lot in hockey.
Five games for MacLennan is light, but the Flames only have two games max left in these playoffs anyway, and Kiprusoff is the number one goalie.
I think coach Playfair should get 15 games though, and not suspending him is where the NHL falls far short in this instance.

Langkow's sucker punch was dirty - I'd give him 2 or 3 games for that.
After that, it's Devil's Advocate time.
The Iginla incident was worthy of no more than a 2-minute minor. Definitely unclean, but nothing noteworthy in the heat of a playoff battle. And I think 5 games is too stiff for McLennan - I thought it was greatly embellished by Franzen. That's not to say McLennan wasn't wrong: he was definitely in the wrong, but it wasn't as vicious as it was made out to be. I thought maybe 1 or 2 games would be appropriate. Doesn't matter much - he's not going to see any game action anyways. The fine was stiff but probably appropriate - it was more in response to the vigilante justice the Flames employed than any one incident.

Well.....the goalie should penalized........no matter what he had intent when he swung the paddle.....I don't care if the other party was injured or not........that is not the point.
The captain...well that was so rough stick handling.....should have been called on the ice........that's what the refs are for. That kind of play is not "style" of play.......that needs to stop.
The refs have to step up to this incident by incident.........and the coach should definitely be penalized.
Its a done deal........game on tonight and I hope the Wings beat em on the scoreboard..........that would be real justice.
Go Wings!!!

If I was Franzen, I would have gone after the guy. It sickens me, that nobody on the Winds did, or will. I am a Wings fan, and am sick and tired of them letting guys take advantage of their teammates, and they do nothing about it. If somebody runs my teammate, even if its a clean hit, and he injures him, damn right I am getting a peice of his ***. Thats why the Wings get slashed, and hacked all ove rthe ice, because teams know, they wont stand up for themselves, or each other. If Schneider would have turned around, and defended himself, Iginla would have never had the chance to crosscheck him. I am a Wings fan, but have watched hockey for too many years, to watch a sissy style of play.

I think Jerome should have been given at least a game suspension because of his intent to injure. The rules should be enforced for all players no matter who you are.Jerome is a PUNK A_ _ B_ _ C H! and should be punished for such a despicable act. GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
