I was helping my son with a math question when I suddenly got the answer somehow. He has to show the work and I don't know how I got the work.I was just getting different numbers and multiplying them.
Here's the problem:

The answer is 45 (I am 92% sure)

You isolate the variable.
?*308*10/3 = 462
? = 462 *3/10/308
? = .45

You simply do each step backwards.
Start with 462. The third step was DIVIDE by 3, so you MULTIPLY by three.
462*3 = 1386
The second step was multiply by 10, so you divide by 10:
1386 / 10 = 138.6
The first step was multiply by 308, so you divide by 308:
136.8 / 308 = 0.45
So that's your answer.
Plug it back in to test it:
0.45 * 308 * 10 / 3 = 462

i'm assuming the "?" at the begining is some number you need to find. if it is, i got .45 not 45.
here's what i did:
get a calculator
type 308*10 to get 3080
devide 3080 by three to get 1026.66666666
devide 462 by 1026.66 to get 0.45002922
that rounds to 0.45
as for the work, show:
308X (10)=3080X
(3080X)/3=1026.66X
(1026.66X)/1026.66=462/1026.66

Starting with the "answer", do the opposite of each operation. The opposite of multiplication is division and vice versa.
462 * 3 = 1386
1386 / 10 = 138.6
138.6 / 308 = 0.45

you mean like 45 x 308 x10 /3 =462?
so then 45 would be x and x would equal 10x308/3?
so 1026.66x=462?
the answer in that case would be 0.45, unless i'm missing a decimal somewhere
