Where is this instrument derived from. Anybody know the history?

Actually, it was originally called a "Jaws Harp", and somewhere that got changed to a "Juice Harp" and finally a "Jew's Harp".

I can assure you it isn't racist, nor is it taken as such. Have you ever heard one played? I've never met a Jew who would willing make such a noise in public.
