I'm allergic to most artificial scents. Perfumes, Colognes, Body Sprays (anyone who wears AXE should be shot on scent immediately), Potpourris, fabric softener, scented candles, air fresheners, some laundry detergents, and even some soaps all give me migraines. I mean head-throbbing, light sensitive, once-passed-out-during-Christmas-service migraines. It's so bad that I just can't fathom that these things smell good to people. (A prime example of aversion training, these things cause me such pain that I think they just smell bad)
Most of these things contain a petro-chemical base to make the scent last longer. And you guessed it, it's carcinogenic. That's what I have a reaction to. (I have no reaction to all-natural scents, however heavy)
So people, I beg you, do not apply scents before going on a plane or office (or anywhere I will be held captive with your scent). And what they show in the AXE commercials is wrongidy wrong wrong wrong. Your scent should be a pleasant surprise for anyone who gets close enough to hug you. I should not be able to smell you before you enter a room or after you leave it. New Car smell is toxic and the only place an air freshner is appropriate is in the bathroom. If you want your kitchen to smell like apple pie then bake a g-d- apple pie!
Sorry, got a bit carried away there.
EDIT:
I find that I have no problem with natural scents like essential oils or anything else you find at the organic grocery store. If you want a nice smell in your house or on your person I highly suggest them.

I don't wear perfume, but that's just because I like to smell just clean, like soap. As for air fresheners, I use the type with the reeds in the oil. It gives a nice light scent to my room, and to my laundry room also. As for spray air fresheners, I always think they're destroying the ozone layer, so I stay away from them.

I have COPD and the asthma component is horrid.
Just the smell of perfume or other strong scents can trigger an attack.
*don't you just hate the fools who bath in perfume or cologne???

i am very sensitive, too
avoid grocery store soap and deoderants
organic style and vitamin style store
can offer natural and light scents
or no scent at all
for soap - check out dr. bronner's
for deoderant - ask for a deoderant salt (no name)
it comes in stick or rock form and works magic
i've been a user of both for 20 yrs

I am very sensitive to smells, and too much of anything won't be nice. Just open the window and turn on a fan.

They're full of poisons. Nice smelling poisons, but poisons all the same. You'd never drink or eat that stuff, so you shouldn't be breathing it either. It's no wonder a lot of people are sensitive to them.

You might have a small case of asthma. Its nothing to worry about that much. If it gets worse, ask your doctor and he can check you for it. Good Luck!
