(2*3n)+(2*-5)-(4*n)-(4*3)=-5
6n-10-4n-12=-5
2n-22=-5
+22.....+22
----------------
2n=17
divide by 2 on both sides leaves
n= 17/2 or 8 1/2

2 (3n-5) -4 (n+3) = -5

first, you distribute the 2 and -4.
This is how distribution work
A (B + C)
you take A and multiply each term in the quanitiy
A*B + A*C
thus, A(B + C) = AB + AC

same thing here, you take 2 and multiply to each term in the first quanity, and take -4 and multiply to each term in the second quanity

6n - 10 - 4n - 12 = -5

combine like terms, any number that has a same variable are called like terms, or any numaber that has no terms are also called like terms.

2n - 22 = -5

add 22 for both sides
2n = 17

divide 2 for both sides
n = 17/2

2(3n -5) - 4( n + 3) = -5 multiply out

6n - 10 -4n -12 = -5 combine terms

2n -22 = -5

2n = -5 + 22

2n = 17

n = 8.5 or 8 1/2

To check put n = 8.5 back into the original equation

2(3(8.5) -5) - 4(8.5 + 3) = -5

2 (25.5 -5) - 4 (11.5) = -5

41 - 46 = -5

-5 = -5

2 (3n-5) -4 (n+3) = -5
6n-10-4n-12=-5 (distribute)
2n -22=-5 (combine like terms)
2n=17 (add 22 to both sides)
n=8.5

6n-10-4n-12=-5
2n-22=-5
2n-22+22=-5+22
2n=17
n=17/2=8.5 or 8 1/2
