NaCN(s) + H2O(l) ===> Na+(aq) + HCN(aq) + OH-(aq)

HCN is only slightly ionized in water.

A triple covalent bond between the C and the N, and an ionic bond between the Na+ and the CN-.

NaCN(s) + aq ----> Na+(aq) + CN-(aq)
