Feminax Tablets bout £3 for a pack of 20 from Boots. It contains paracetamol, Codine and Hyosine.
I know they use them in hospitals as my sister was given them when she was in a really bad way, and as you can tell from everyone else recommending them, they really do work well!

Like you, I get the most terrible period pain; I'm usually in bed for the whole day and on painkillers for two.

One thing which helps with even the most agonising pain: pressing a REALLY hot water bottle against your stomach and/or back. Fill it from the kettle so that it's at maximum heat, and then put a thin t-shirt over your stomach, then apply the bottle. Trust me, it helps! Don't panic if your skin goes red; that fades.

I've found that taking paracetemol and nurofen together does seem to work; I take the paracetmeol first, followed by the nurofen five minutes later. Usually the pain then becomes bearable.

But do check with your doctor/chemist about taking the pills together; I've been told it's fine, but do double check. And if you're going to be taking paracetemol, it's important to eat a little bit with them, even if it's just a biscuit.

Your doctor can prescribe you stronger medication for the pain; you might also ask for a referral letter to a specialist to be checked for things like endometriosis.

Hope this helps.

have you tried any of the following;

feminax, can be bought over the counter at most pharmacys and works wonders, doesnt erradicate it but does lessen it.

Taking the pill- I havent tried this (to be honest I dont like the thought of messing with my hormones especially as it may cause cancer- jurys still out though)

excercise? it feels like the last thing you want to to/feel able to do- like snogging an actual toad would be easier, but once you get going- around 5 or 10 mins into it, you do get this sense of release, its because when you get P.P you tense up, all over but especially in your abdomen, this is the last thing you need to happen as it intensifies the pain- its not easy to just say "relax", but excercise does loosen and realx your body- abdoment included.

Sleep! it does feel better when you have rested.

Also, steer clear of any alchohol, and salt, any chilli or mustard and eating too much sugar. These can all intensify the cramps.

If paracetamol aren't helping your doctor can prescribe stronger painkillers - the most common one is mefenamic acid.

Heat pads and hot water bottles help. If you can stand to, gentle exercise is good to.

If all else fails, the pill may be an option.

This is assuming that you are just one of the unlucky ones who has very painful periods. Just to be sure, you should check with your GP. If you do have endometriosis, it needs to be treated properly.

Would like to know how old you are!! But, If you are 15 to 40. thensounds normal, and take ibuprofen, or something similar.Otherwise, go and see your doc. I always had bad pains, eventually had hysterectomy. After 2 kids, but, hey, no periods!! If you are very young, then deal with it, or go and se e a specialist. Good luck..,

I take a combination of Nurofen and Spasmonal (the latter prescribed by the doc - they stop the spasms). It's important to take the pills as soon as you feel any pain, no matter how small. If you leave it too late the pills don't work!

You probably have endometriosis. I suffered with this for more than ten years before I was diagnosed. There is a lot more info about this disorder now and most gynecologists can give you a diagnosis and treatment options. There is no cure.

Hi. I have suffered from this too. The only thing that helped me was a trip to the doctor who prescribed feminiac acid. It is the only thing that works for me

I get this too. Nothing will really make it go away. But I found a hot water bottle/heating pad always helps. Along with some anti inflammatory's.
