There is a specific form of chimpanzee known as the Bonobo chimps which are 99.4% identical to us. Any number of characteristics including their faces and various mental capacities are eerily similar to our own. It is commonly believed that if any genetic factor is responsible for our species' intelligence, it resides in that .6% difference between us and them.
