I planted anemones bulbs a few weeks ago along with some ixia bulbs. The ixia have sprouted and are growing fine. I am a little impatient and dug up the anemones to see what the heck was going on and I found that they had all turned to goo and there was no sign of germination. What is this, and what caused it? What is the best way to grow anemones?

Rhizome rot can occur, especially in very wet conditions. Did the ground remain saturated for long periods over the winter?

They like average, medium wet, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Soak tubers in water overnight before planting to plump them up. This encourages them to get growing.
They do best if sheltered from the wind.
