1) 9x² - 16 = 0

Take 16 over to the RHS than take square roots of both sides

9x² = 16
3x = ± 4

(± is very important, because 4²=16, but (-4)²=16 as well!)

Now divide both sides by 3:
x = ± 4/3
i.e. x = 4/3, -4/3

2.) 100x² - 49 = 0
Proceed as before
100x² = 49
10x = ± 7
x = ± 7/10
i.e. x = 7/10, -7/10

Hope this helps.

9x² - 16 = 0

(3x - 4)(3x + 4) = 0
