I know this porbably sounds like a joke, but it's true:
I've never ordered a subway sandwich before- I need some help. Please do not make any smart comments- only helpful answers, please!
I went into the restaurant the other day, and the menu was so confusing, I wasn't sure how to order. What do I need to know about bread types, sandwich size, fillings, etc.?
P.S. The website menu wasn't very helpful either.

P.P.S. I would like to know more about non-meat options, such as veggies, cheese, and fish.
Thanks for all the help so far!

ok, well just look at the menu and decide what you want. you really can get it made however you want. like me, i usually get turkey, so i just tell them i would like a foot long turkey breast, on monterrey cheddar bread. then they'll ask you what you want on it...i always get lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, olives and mayo....that's it! they'll ask if you want chips and a drink too. so anything you see that they have and you like (turkey, ham, tuna, whatever!), just tell them and choose the kind of bread you want. they should have pictures of the diff. types of bread. good luck and enjoy your sandwich!

I'm trying to not be a smartass but if you go in when they're not busy just ask them about the meat combinations. They can be kind of confusing if it doesn't say what they are on the menu. Personally I like an Italian (pepperoni, salami, and ham) on that bread with the oats on top (forget what it's called). That's my favorite bread. There's a couple breads with cheese on them that are good too. The veggie sandwich has just cheese and whatever vegetables you want on there. There are a lot of choices for those, and you can see them through the glass once you choose meat and bread. You have a choice of either a 12" or a 6" sandwich, that's pretty easy.
There's one here that is called a pizza sub, I think some stores don't have them, but it's pepperoni and the sauce from the meatballs (also tasty) and cheese plus the veggies of your choice. Yum.
Easiest thing to do is just find a time when they're not busy, and ask questions. I'm sure you wouldn't be the first one to do it. Good luck.

Well this MAY sound stupid....
2 things you should know, ONE, my wife isn't from this country and Two, she's Deaf.
I watched her in subway the other day and she don't even LOOK at the menu, she just points to the things behind the glass!
First she pointed at which bread she wanted... and the girl behind the counter extended her arms and asked all or half (then brought her arms together for the small size and went on from there)
She pointed out the things she knows like beef or chicken or turkey... then the toppings just pointed to what she wanted one after the next until the end and pointed to the drink in the box she wanted and that was it. No help from me needed.
Pretty simple.
One GOOD things in your situation.... every sandwich there can be a new surprise, many things and combinations of toppings.... while most us Americans are so bored we eat and go and don't ever stop anymore to see what's new or have something new.. we just fuel up and run. Sad.
Wish I could be you for a week.... and remember not knowing what to expect the next time I went into a Subway, *sighs)

1. Choose a bread
2. Choose a size (6 in. or 1 ft.)
3. Choose kind of sandwich/main topping (chicken, steak, turkey, ham, bologna, salami, etc.)
4. Choose a cheese
5. Decide if you want it toasted (it's better that way)
6. Decide extra toppings/veggies (I like black olives, banana peppers, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions)
7. Decide on dressing (oil and vinegar are light, the chipotle is really tasty but bad for you, light mayo and mustard are good options).
8. Say thank you and pay :)
Enjoy!

Their main problem is that they don't drain a lot of the things such as pickles etc. so the sandwich gets soggy. Otherwise just get the bread and the filling you like.

ok veggie wise, subway brings in whole peppers and lettuce, onions and stuff and cuts them up in the shop. Mcdonalds gets there stuff premixed, pre cut, pre shredded. where mcdonalds makes their buns, they actually get sucked up through a tube to be transported from one of the factory to the other. Subway, i think gets in frozen bread, buts its real bread and they bake it the same way a baker would. And btw, most bakeries and supermarkets get all their bread in frozen, they just bake it from frozen And that smell from the bread? Is acutally what real bread smells like if you were to make it at home

The first time I went in I was confused too. I asked the guy behind the counter to help me, I told him I'd never been in here before. He didn't make fun of me, he really helped me. Now I know how to order.

they pretty much summed it up for you but the subway i worked at offered "veggie patties" as well. ingredients vary from each subway as they are franchise i personally love the b. m. t. ( pepperoni, ham, and salomi) on wheat try the oil and vinegar too after all your ingredient are on the sub and salt and pepper hope this helps!
