We dug up a grainy-surfaced white rock in our yard. It is shaped like a potato except it is flat on one side. It weighs 6-8 ounces. Thanks for any info.

Obviously a raw diamond.

Or maybe a lump of quartz?
Or marble?

A close look at the structure should reveal some more details.

I have a cliche white rock inside it has some shiny specks, and the rock is easy to break apart if you hit it on the ground it comes off in chuncks. In the middle it looks like sand but its real shiny, I d say almost a green color

It could be a marble, chalk, quartzite, calcite, limestone, dolomite,etc.. What part of the world did you find it in? Because the rocks color, shape and weight doesn't really tell me enough to even begin to make a guess.

Sorry.
I don't know any rocks, but I am on a
first name basis with a number of trees
out at the golf course.
