I am building a new house in so cal and the inspector asked for me to fireblock the cario niche? What the heck is that.
If i have to build a chimeny. Do they sell them in the stores like a kit or how would i go about building one?

Not sure if this is what you mean. Are you sure he didn't say Curio Niche? Do you have a cut-out or recessed area near your chimney that will be used to display small items (knick-knacks)? If so, it could be that the depression in the wall is not as fireproof as the rest of the wall and causes a weakness that could allow fire to penetrate the building easier. I could not find your term listed on the web.
