why arent you in luck today lol I am a trainee teacher and i have had a lecture all about this a couple of months back here is what i can remember of hand:

1) children learn from the moment they are born, before they come to school they learn a great deal from society- eg social norms and values such how to act in certain situations, manners, religion etc

2) if children are living within a not so positive society children can learn social norms & values that are not acceptable - thus creating disturbances within the classroom having a negative effect on the education of all of the children in the class

3) Society place a great emphasis on achievement - if a child does really well on a piece of work they are praised and rewarded therefore this behaviour is likely to be repeated creating a self fullfilling prophecy, However if a child does not achieve so well they may be called thick, stupid, or people will say 'john always messes things up' this makes the child feel worthless and again will create a self fulfilling prophecy although this time it will be negative and the child will continue to not achieve

Sorry this is all i can remember! hope it helps

Society trends affect children and students an many levels. Here is one example I wrote in an old thesis. Remember your parents talking about how life was good in the fifties. We would never talk back to our teachers. Then came the movie Chalk Board Jungle, staring Marlon Brandoe. Teens started watching that movie then guess what, Teens and teachers are coming to blows...How about the movies the Outsiders...A great movie, but what message did it send, fighting works. Even though two die in the end. Now lets look at the news..How many times are murders name repeated in the headlines. How many times can Ted Bundys story be told...Where are the victims name. How come I know more about him than the victims. Society could have positive affect on children, remember Little House, Eight is Enough children in the shows were taught to respect their parents, Cosby is another great one...but then here comes the news....we are bombarded with negative pictures and negative actions are on a rapid incline with our youth.
