i had my lawn mower in storage for about 5 months. it's an old mower that i got second hand, but it didn't give me a single problem last year. it always started right up with 1 or 2 pulls. i had it stored with gas in it, and someone told me i would see little bubbles in the tank if there was water in it, which i don't see. the oil is good, tried replacing the spark plug, air filter is good. it doesn't sound like it's even trying to start, but seems to sound slightly better when i take the spark plug out. is my mower just dead?

Find yourself a 1/2" socket, or wrench.
On the bottom of the carburator bowl is the bowl nut/jet.

Remove the nut, remove the bowl, and clean it out well.
Sometimes the bowl tends to stick to the big Oring on top of it.

There's probably some old gas in the bottom of it, and/or water.

Would help to know if it is a push or a ride mower. Also if it has a fuel primer bulb, etc. First remove the plug leave the plug wire attached and hold the tip of the plug to the metal housing of the motor. Pull or have someone pull the cord and see if you have a spark between the electrode of the plug and the tip of plug. If not and is a point type mower you will have to clean the point contacts, most are located beneath the flywheel which will have to be removed. If you do get spark then you just have a fuel problem. Drain out all old fuel and make sure there is no water in tank. Fill with new fuel, put about a half teaspoon of fuel into spark plug hole, install plug, choke then try to start. If it hits and does not run long remove plug and add another half teaspoon of fuel. It should then start.

Never put an lawn mower up for a long period of time without removing the gas, Run the mower until it stops, This will insure the carb. Gasket will still work , The mower needs new gas and the old gas is not any good , Here is one to remember, It takes 3 things to start an engine, 1. Gas 2. air 3. spark . Your mower ran great until you put it up now the carb. is not working properly. Carburetor cleaner will help, good luck

you do not supply sufficient counsel. Did the engine stop once you hit the rock? Is it a sparkling mower? Push or rider? Hitting a rock will harm the engine yet there's a key between the crankshaft and flywheel that's there to dodge inner harm to the engine in situations like this. If that secret is sheared from hitting the rock the engine won't run. The flywheel will could desire to be bumped off and the significant replaced. you should additionally examine the blade for harm. do away with the sparkplug twine before you attain under the mower and continually tip the mower with the air filter out up so which you don't get oil into the carburetor/cylinder.

Remove the spark plug, place the wire back on the spark plug while it is still out of the motor. Pull on the rope or crank it over and have some one look to see if it is getting a "Spark". If no spark, magneto is bad, if park, then maybe a fuel item. PS: Better to try checking for spark in a dark garage.

If you store gas in the mower over the winter, you should add Stabil to the gas, so the gas doesn't get gummy sitting over the winter. This helps it to move thru the carburator, and not clog it up. Try some carb cleaner, then add some Stabil to the existing gas. This is what we do every winter/spring.
