I have a Yard Machine riding mower which has been blowing black smoke when it runs. Does anyone know what may be causing this?

Black smoke is from to much gas. It could be as simple as dirty air filter or to muck carbine build up on the plug. More complex it could be dirty points if it has them or the carb needs cleaned or rebuilt.

black smoke is usually caused by flooding with gas. Maybe change your fuel filter and spark plug

sounds like you need to adjust the carburator. blue or white smoke is oil burning. black smoke is to much gas on the gas/air mixture.

It sounds like it is running too rich. Too much fuel.

You could possibly be burning oil, or the rings around the cylinder could be bad... or you might have just blown a cylinder...
