YES! it is very diverse and has many types of neighborhoods depending on what you want. It is not necessary "middle class" though. The two extremes exist here. Not particularly great for families, unless you are wealthy.

It depends on what part of Oakland. I have lived in the Lake Merritt area, over by CCAC off of College and Broadway, and in Oakland Hills. Those areas are relatively safe, albeit a little more expensive.

only stay in Dublin or Pleasanton. If something Walnut Creek is much extra uninteresting, in spite of the undeniable fact that it is not sufficient distinctive to make any distinction - they are all suburban mattress room communities. extremely there is not any longer something approximately Walnut Creek to make it well worth a visit to Pleasonton. in case you % to stay yet another place, make it Alamo or Danville. If no longer San Francisco perfect. Silicon Valley has murderous site visitors night and day. And no BART.

I wouldn't choose Oakland.
Berkeley, Concord, Walnut Creek, Alameda, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Hayward, Union City, Fremont, Milpitas.... yes.
Oakland, no. Also, Richmond, no.

The whole bay area is expensive ,
And most of it is progressive . . .
Go for Alameda instead ( yahoo map 94501 )
An island just west of Oakland , and the only warm beach ever in the bay area .
