They were interested in the rebirth of classical forms. They all looked back to ancient Rome for inspiration. They were supported by important people like Lorenzo the Magnificant and other princes, King Francis I, and the Papacy. 4 of them were used to name the TMNT: Leonardo (Da Vinci), Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael...lol. Really they all emphasized the human body and human abilities. Raphael's School of Athens displays this well with Da Vinci on the stairs reading a book, Donatello at the base of the stairs studying something, and himself among mathematicians. It seems that everyone in the painting is using their minds.
