Why do people on here say "Why do you Brits pick on Americans?" (Saying that every single British person picks on Americans is simply untrue! I don't I love America and how they are such a united country)

And another example
Why do people assume that all Muslims are terrorists?

Its so annoying when people generalise, and when your thinking "Hang on, you don't know me, I don't do that"

Who agrees?

Well, if you are a Brit... Then I feel like you just picked on America by saying "I don't love America and how they are such a united country."

I think our unity makes us great!

And as for the Muslims... It is my understanding that their religion teaches them that all Christians are the evil and it is encouraged to kill them. If that's true, then I truly hate every last Muslim. If it's not true, then they need to do a better job of getting their true message across. I mean, hey, we Christians did the whole Crusade thing and it's taken people this long to get over that!!!

I agree.

Those who make sweeping statements are usually ignorant or overly defensive. It's wrong to assume that a small sample of opinion, or that the actions of fundamentalists, are in any way representative of the majority. Although, judging from some of the responses to your question, I have to try and stop myself from generalising and thinking everyone on this site is an abusive moron.

I don't agree. As unfair as generalization may be to a few, it is usually pretty accurate. We don't have time to figure out exactly which muslims are terrorists or which brits are jackasses. We just know that most are and the few that are not, unfortunately are caught up in the mix.

People generalize because they don't want to take the time or the energy to get to know the people they generalize!
