what is best horse riding shoes or boots.

I think it's a matter of preference. I like boots myself.

Use boots. You need a boot with at least a one inch heel( Less than one inch is not allowed in most show circuits-rules). Shoes can slip through the stirrup, or prevent you from using the stirrup correctly and can be a potentially very dangerous. Also a boot protects your foot a lot better than a shoe when the horse steps on you. Boots are safer, required in the arena, and just generally good to have. There are lace up boots available ( that's what I use because the fit is really nice- no blisters).

Any type of shoe that has a heel, but in shows you must have riding boots, and when you wear the boots, make sure you wear long pants all the time because if you dont you will get leg saddle burn caused by the rubbing between the two!

You need sturdy boots with ankle support. They should have a smooth sole and a defined low heel which prevents your foot getting stuck in the stirrup.
In summer, jodhpur or paddock boots are cooler, and you can use half chaps with them to protect your legs from rubbing. In winter, you can get long rubber boots from around £30 for something reasonable. You don't need leather boots for everyday use - the stitching will rot if you wear them in wet conditions or around the stables.
You can also buy 'muckers' for general stable work - some people ride in them, but they lack support.
make sure your stirrups are at least 1cm wider than your boots for safety

Long black rubber or leather riding boots are probably best as they will protect your legs. The smaller jodhpur boots are great too, but you may need chaps to wear with them. They need to be strong and have a heel no bigger than about 1 inch.

Short riding boots and half chaps are best becuase you are not restricted and it gives your lower leg protection from rubbing on the saddle.

i like stubborn boots both jodphur and full length boots they are expensive and they are made of leather but they fit well and look really classy.a good pair of stubborn long length boots can set you back 150 pounds but Ive had mine for 5 years.the rubber boots are no good and i think look tacky.it depends what you are using the boots for.if mucking out i still wear my stubborn boots but i put half chaps on top to protect them.then take them off for riding.the sole of the boot is sturdy and even if your feet are wet your foot does not slip out of the stirrup.i think they are well worth the money

Anything with a heel..Something to stop your shoe from going through the stirrup, and being dragged..
