In some states, it's a law. In my (former) school's system, we went 7 1/2 hours because they built in the snow days. We'd have like 15 snow days built into the school calendar so that if we ever got snowed out of school, we didn't have to make the days up at the end of the year. In TN, schools are required to go 180 days and 7 hours is considered a day.

Hah, I AM only in school for 4 hours a day.
But only because I tested out of regular classes and I'm in Mexico. ;-)
Anyway, you're in school for a long time because that's just about the minimum time needed to teach you everything and still give you a summer break. If you were only in school four hours a day you would also need to be in school year round. Sucks, huh?

Be satisfied you do no longer decide for 8 and a a million/2 hours like I did in severe college in North Carolina. From 7:30am to 3pm. Up north in Massachusetts exchange into the main suitable. college exchange into from 8 to 2. certainly, college hours are frequently shorter. college for me exchange into frequently no greater beneficial than 4 to 6 hours an afternoon. of path, there is a lot greater homework in contact.

It's because of the # of students each teacher has to handle each day. We homeschool 2 of our children and it doesn't take that long for them to go through their lessons if we work straight through. But if I had to teach the same information to 30 students instead of 2 it would take atleast 7-1/2 hours.

I dont know.
You see, what i dont understand is how they can teach the kids in summer school, in about 4-9 weeks.
But, it takes us 18 weeks.
& Summer school only goes half a day.
I wish reg. school was like that.

Because while 4 hours may be enough time to teach the basics, it wouldn't be enough time for the school to saturate your mind with their liberal agenda. ( i.e. Be extra nice to homosexuals, how to put on a condom, etc.)
