Death is not easy for people to understand because of how little is known about people after death. We bury them and tend to leave them alone. One Christian tradition teaches that death is simply a separation. It is either a separation from God or a separation from people on Earth. As examples of these belief's consider the following:
Romans 6:11 -- Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:51 -- Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed.
1 Thessalonians 4:14 -- For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also who sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
It is said that when Adam sinned by eating of the forbidden fruit, he died in as much as his relationship with God was killed. Having fellowship with God is a living relationship. Through Christ, we can live in fellowship with God.
The other idea of death is of separation from people. That is easier to understand. Someone dies and is no longer able to interact with us. They are physically separated from us. Who could stand the smell during the decay process? It is necessary to separate ourselves from the dead.
Christians are said to be asleep because sleep is a temporary state. Christians believe that they will be together again. Since the separation is temporary, it is not referred to as death. Further, since Christians are not separated from God by sin, they are not dead. They are alive and in fellowship with God.
Short answer: death is separation. It is either separation from God or separation from people. Should you be afraid? Good question. Personally, I believe that separation from God is a very bad thing. The physical process of dying is not always pleasant. Sometimes it is very painful. No one does or should like that. But in contrast, the idea of someone being eternally separated from God is scary. That has to be the worst possible end. That alone would describe hell.

It depends what you define as death. I like to think that everything that is born, dies. Even stars, galaxies and universes. When stars die they explode into something called a planetary nebula. This planetary nebula is just the starting point of a new star, a smaller nebula then the last. Repeat... until all the resources are depleted and their is nothing but darkness in the universe due to no fusible elements. So thinking about it like that, death is the lack of light or darkness.

death is the ending of the physical body and the release of the spirit. No matter what your religion, we all believe that your soul continues to somewhere. Whether it be to heaven, or the next plane, or back as a holly cow, who really cares, the fear of death is the unknown. If we find comfort from believing we continue on then why not.

I don't believe in the death of consciousness. I think that death is the point at which a component of the human body is too weak for the perpetual cycle of the body to continue. However, our actions perpetuate in others and in the environment indefinitely and each new generation builds upon the last, increasing consciousness

Death is the point of change...
Where the soul actualizes the Body and the body realizes that it is no longer necessary for it's existence.
I do not fear death... I will welcome my own evolution into my state of becoming my higher more enlightened completed self.

When you die you go to heaven for eternity if you have asked Jesus to be your Savior. If you haven't and you die then you go to hell forever...which would you rather do??? I think that people who don't believe in God fear death. But if he is your savior then you really have nothing to fear when it comes to death because you're gonna go to heaven anyway and what could be better?!?!?!?!♥
