I don't think the world will end, I think it's the beginning of a new cycle, a new age. Like how we went from the industrial age into the technological age, or from the stone age into the age of civilization. I think we will get more technologically advanced, sending colonizers to the moon and Mars, for example, and we will also get more spiritual, and less "religious".

The Earth is set to end, and in 2012 we'll be a little closer to the end than we are now. It's going to happen eventually, but unless the sun explodes for no good reason, it's not going to end in 2012.

If u are a christian the bible says no man knows -not even the angels in heaven and if ur and atheist u don't have to worry about it --but prophets of doom have been around as long as time itself.
