What kinds of fish can go together with angelfish?? We have a 72 gallon aquarium and we have just set it up. we are going to let it cycle for about a week, and we are just wondering what fish they can go with so that we have some kind of idea of what to buy.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, too.
Thanks!

No, I'm not cycling with the Angels, if any body else wants to know. We haven't even bought any fish yet! We just set up the tank yesterday.

We were dead-set on having angelfish, so we were seeing what other fish could go with them.

Various medium sized tetras all make good tank mates for angels. Diamond, X-ray, pristilla, lemon, just to name a few. I can also recommend cory catfish, one of the larger killifish, and dwarf South American cichlids.
Angels are quite peaceful fish, especially for cichlids, but will eat anything that will fit in their mouths, so avoid quite small fish and avoid things that will try to bully the angels.

i have a school of pristella tetras (x-ray tetras), a couple of german blue rams, a clown pleco, and 3 otto catfish with my angelfish, and they all seem to get along well. Just keep away from any fish that will fit in its mouth (neon tetras), and any fish that may be fin-nippers, and you should be fine. Angelfish are very peaceful and get along with most community fish. If you wanna have more than one angelfish, you should keep at least 3 or more. you should also let the tank cycle for more than 1 week, as the angelfish may be very stressed during the cycle. I cycled my tank using the tetras, and then added the other fish. Tetras are hardy, and should survive through a cycle...mine did. :) hope this helps

Angelfish, though territorial, have the potential of becoming rather passive fish if bought at a young age.Older fish would most often then not be aggressive and unfriendly but younger ones would grow with their tank mates and become relatively sociable.
Therefore, if you have older and larger angelfishes, mix them only with fishes that can fend for themselves and not smaller than the angel's mouth while for juvenile angelfishes, any fish type should not be a problem except fiercer cichlids that could nip the angel's majestic finnage.

there is presently not sufficient room for greater angelfish (or the different fish for that count). the vast angelfish has usual the whole tank as its territory and sees different angels as opponents. Get a intense high quality length tank that could carry all your present day fish nicely. P.S. which you should to learn the way vast rainbow sharks get and accommodate the hot tank for him because of the fact i think of he could develop into the main important fish out of the three species. sturdy success!

Let it cycle more than a week. Are you cycling with angels? They are as good as dead.
72 gallons will support about half a dozen angels nicely. Figure that uses up 48 and with the remaining 24 you might want some larger tetras. Don't over stock it.

Angels are very territorial especially when breeding. For a tank your size I would suggest getting top level fish like coral danios, and bottom water fish like clown loaches, and aquatic dwarf frogs get along great with angels. Stay away from goldfish... they are "bumpy swimmers" and will drive a "finesse swimmer" like angels nuts. Try just getting all males of angels and different types, like chocolate lace etc. FYI, For a special treat, angels love to eat frozen bloodworms.

Angle fish are a bit territorial, especially with other angels. Buy them together or they will fight. Otherwise, community schooling fish work fine with angels....guppies, neons, mollies, etc. Stay away from semi aggressive fish with Angles because while angels can hold their own fairly well, the more aggressive fish will peck at their fins til they kill them.

Umm...freshwater angelfish or saltwater angelfish?
Freshwater: gouramis, large tetras, a pleco, silver dollars, Kribensis, weather loach, large danios, hatchets
Saltwater: clownfish, blennies, damsels, tangs, wrasses, basslets, rabbitfish
Just take care to choose species that would be happy with your size of tank and don't overcrowd the fish.
