I've just signed up to sponsor a child from Afria..just $25 a month, and more if I wish. I was wondering how much of that will actually go to the child and how much will go to the company? I'm hopeing it will all go to the child but I know that's unlikely.

Depends on the organization, really. You'd have to do the foot work for that individual company, but law requires them to specify such spending to not just you but the US government. Whats really an issue is how little this is really helping individuals in other countries, and works on the assumption that westernizing ideals are a good thing. I'm not going to get into that, but lets face it we don't have all the answers. But to assume that feeding, clothing, and education a person, is all that persons needs is arrogant is the cause of almost all of our social problems, from drug-use to melestation, from theivery to muder and diffently rape. That all a person needs is the small basics is false, takes a village to raise a child, and the world to raise a man. In other words, its nice what your doing, but it isn't going to gaurentee that these poor kid isn't abuse, melested, murdered, raped, or does the same in his own right. Because of this I highly sujest against doing this and securing a false sense of accomplishment. There is so much more you can do in your own berg, it isn't fair to reach out to a berg you'll never see for a person you may never know. So what if you help them to make it to adulthood, if there not satisfied with themselves when their there.... this isn't any different really then what most parents do in there own houses and we've seen what thats done for our society.... but its your life, I'm pretty sure for the time being the kids contempt.... its the things you can't give him thats going to destroy him later...
