is that true??

It is not that the world will end in 2012 because of a flood... it is vice versa! In 2012 is expected world war three... a fight to the finish between Christianity and Islamic Dharma... a nuclear war so unprecedented that 1200 million people will vanish in the war. This magnitude war will increase global temperatures... resulting in melting of icecaps. The water in the seas is expected to rise by 10 to 12 feet.

This average increase of 10 to 12 feet in the sea level would mean... floods all over. Waves... thousand feet high would be a common phenomenon. This would devastate the entire coastal belts world over. Two thirds of UK is expected to submerge in the sea waters. Australia... the population of which resides only in the peripheral coastal belt is expected to be washed clean. After the finishing of world war three... countries like Australia would not further exist on the world map!

Most of the coastal belts around the world would submerge 20 to 30 kilometers inland... something unbelievable by human standards! Such havoc worldwide would ultimately result in changed perception world over. The wanton desires and the greed for materialistic riches would vanish. People would want to live life after world war three as it was meant to be! True feeling of brotherhood would be seen all around.

The end of the world in 2012 simply means changed values for the better of mankind. Re-establishment of Dharma... propagation of moral and ethical values again would be the order of the day. More on shape of the world to come - http://www.godrealized.org/shape_of_the_world_to_come.html

No one really knows what the planetary alignment will due to our planet or civilization in the year 2012. The mayans predicted the end of the world. But from science, we know that 'life' and even humanoid kind, has lived longer than their belief of the world being about 5-6,000 years old. Some scientist theorize that there will be a massive polar shift, in which our magnetic North may become out magnetic South and vice versa. While the crust that we live on will most likely not make a full rotation, the inner core they theorize will, which will cause massive earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic activity on a scale that mankind has never witnessed. Scientists cannot agree on wether this event will melt both polar ice caps enough to cause the massive flooding your friend is talking about. I like to think mankind will survive whatever will be thrown our way come Dec, 2012

Yes, that date comes from that great stone wheel calendar of the old Mayans on which they calculated what they called the Seventh Sun to happen in December 2012, a period by the way when a rather infrequent cosmic corridor will open exposing the entire solar system to the energies eminating from the center of the galaxy, a power normally diffused by the many stars blocking that path. Maybe the Mayan prediction is true and if it is, civilization as we know it will perish from the face of the earth. Whoever's left will be forest and cave people once again and, unfortunately, not necessarily at the top of the food chain.

There is a lot of constant speculation, with religious types AND scientists alike, on when exactly the world will end. If you simply ask anyone on the street you are bound to receive multiple answers with different background information.

Your friends particular belief is probably based on the idea of "global climate change", not to be confused with "global warming". The latter is a cause of the former; the flooding (I'm guessing) that your friend is referring to is the idea that global warming will cause a global climate change, melting polar ice caps and glacial formations, causing a rise in sea levels across the world. However the amounts that are studied are at the most 77ft., not enough to bury the world in water. So your friend, to be correct, would also have to imply that because of the flood, there would be mass disease and famine, causing the destruction of humankind. Once again- this is extremely loose in its definition.

My answer? No one really knows, unless you think there is a God. And maybe he (or she!) knows.

Even with global warming raising sea levels, the world certainly would not end in 2012 from flooding.
A best estimate I have come across in my readings on global warming is a sea level rise of between 10 cm and 1 meter by 2100. This would impact millions of people, but would not end the world, and certainly not by 2012.
No one can predict with certainty the date of the world's end.

I remember back in high school, we watched a video on the Mayan empire. The Mayans have been saying for the past 1000 years that the world will end on December something 2012. They get the date from their astrology that they developed...Amazing I still remember that...

Could be. Pretty unlikely though.

In truth nobody knows. Also the phrase 'end of the world' is massively misleading. End of humanity maybe. Even then probably not. Also where is all the water going to come from exactly?

I heard that a meteor is going to hit the Earth on my birthday (April, 13th) in 2036. But I've heard that as well. There is really no way we can predict that. just don't dwell on it. Theres nothing you or anyone can do about it.

Now, how in the world would any of us know if that's true? I personally doubt it. Where does your friend get his/her information?

Its hard enough to predict next weeks weather because of chaotic effects, so we have no idea. But I think it's pretty unlikely.
