Rap music Vs. Rcok 'n' Roll. And why is today's popular music so crappy?

You go to a music store, all you'll find is

A. Skater Music
B. Britney Spears
C. Rap Crap
D. Mexican

Where's the Rock? And when I say Rock, I don't mean that crap you hear playing at Hot Topic. When I say Rock, I'm talking about the legends of music.

Elvis, Janis Joplin, The Doors, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and all of those.

What the heck happened? How the heck did a Rap become so big. It takes no talent at all to Rap. Anyone can yell and curse into a microphone. Anyone!

Playing Rock, it takes a talented person to play it. It involes guitars, drums, and all of that. The music is suppose to tell a story and it's suppose to sound good.

When, I hear Rap, the first thing that comes into my mind is street gangs, sex, drugs, rape, crime, African-Americans, etc

Music today is sex, drugs, and womanizing. It is sick. It's not even music! Everyone today listens to it because the radio plays it. The people on the radio tells everyone to listen to the "music", so people do! They should be playing more of the Beatles and the other groups you mentioned.

As a listener of rap and rock, I too have noticed that music in general has changed, I miss the Ramones, Journey, Hendrix, and all the other great stuff, honestly I don't bother that much w/ new rock, I find myself listening to old stuff, currently I am listening to the Cure's "love song".

As far as rap/ hip hop these days the majority is crap, but if you listen to some underground you'll find it is very different.
I suggest Atmosphere's " God loves Ugly" and "Lucy Ford" are both great albums, as for storytelling rap Ghostface is one of the best. Canibus is probably one of the most creative and intelligent rappers in the world, for better idea I suggest you read his bio on wikipedia. Immortal Technique is somewhat raunchy, but he is also a talented rapper whose albums are very political.

All in all, for rock I usually listen to the older suff, as for hip hop
I listen to artist that are not on a major label.

I'm not a big fan of it either. But it is not just rap. Alternative rock is taking over too. You can't go to Wal-Mart anymore and find some decent people you want to listen to. I have to order them online. But oh well. I mean as long as there is some people to support rock it isn't going to go away and maybe some day it will make a big come back. Do you like Motley Crue and Ugly Kid Joe and Jackyl and all them. I think Quiet Riot is one of my favorites right now.

I won't lie to you. There is a lot of rap that is crap these days. I love the classic rap much better. The way a lot of these rappers today rap, it doesn't take a lot of skills. The way they used to do it, it takes skill. It used to be more about having a good time, and not so much about crime and sex.

you: 'Elvis, Janis Joplin, The Doors, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, ... '

me: they all had their time.

you: 'When, I hear Rap, the first thing that comes into my mind is street gangs, sex, drugs, rape, crime, African-Americans, etc'

me: rap is (or at least it was) away of dealing with social problems. maybe they cannot play guitar, but can you rap? have you ever tried to? and to do it right?

i'm not a rap fan myself, but i can identify with rap music and its background a way more than with the beatles and all those potheads (although i like the doors).

Back in the day artists did it to entertain, music was art. These days music is considered a product. Few "artists" write their own material. The goal now for people making "music" is to get rich.

Most large record outlets can order any of the music you want, but you may have to wait a week or so to get it.

Wow, good question. Finally someone who thinks of rock as music and not this loud head banging crap.

Good question, who knows where it went, but we can bring it back!
