18n=2n^2

2n^2 equals 2nn, so you would divide each side by n.

18n/n=2n^2/n
18=2n

Now, you would divide each side by 2 to isolate the variable (n).

18/2=2n/2
9=n

There are 2 answers. You want to do this:

18n = 2n^2

Solving for n is possible this way, but you will only get one solution. So to do it right, you want to get n on one side, so you subtract 18n.

0 = 2n^2 -18n

Then you see that both terms have at least one n and both factors are divisible by 2. Factor 2n out of both:

0 = 2n (n - 9)

Set each factor equal to 0:

0 = 2n

0 = n - 9

n = 0 and 9

Note taht everytime you have a quadratic equation, there are two answers because when you graph it, it is a parabola (U shaped curve pointing either up or down and has 2 solutions where y=0 ).

Hope this helped, good luck with your homework!

Any problem with a squared will have two answers. Since there's an n in both sides of your problem, one answer (or "zero") is 0.

To get the other answer, move everything to one side, leaving 0 on the other:

0=2n^2-18n+0

Then either factor (bleh) for use the quadractic formula, which is -b +-the square root of b^2 -4(ac) all divided by 2a. I wish there was a better way to write it.

When you go through all that, your answers are 0 and 9. n=0, n=9

This is how:

18n=2n^2
First divide both sides by 2

9n = n^2
Now divide by n

9 = n

18n=2n^2

Divide both sides by 2n

18n/2n=2n^2/2n
9=n
