good question
i think that separate countries work...but war is never the answer. i think the world should be united, but we can have separate governments and laws. but when one country is in trouble, then the other country should be able to help them.
no war.

Back in the early 19th century the economist, David Ricardo, came up the theory of competitive advantage. - He showed how two countries that trade with each other can both gain from the transactions and increase overall production. For an explanation of how it works, take a look at at:

In theory, the U.S. could grow all the bananas that Americans eat in hot houses, and thereby become Banana Independent, but it it wouldn't be very efficient.
On the other hand suppose the U. S. had always grown all its bananas in hot houses and suppose the U.S. suddenly had the opportunity to buy bananas from Ecuador, at much lower cost - that would put the American banana growers out of work. - But the banana farmers in Ecuador would now have money to buy American products, and it would make sense for the former American banana farmers to make something that they could sell to Ecuador or to someone else.

"Globalization" usually means "Free Trade" agreements which in reality are Corporate Managed Trade Agreements whereby Corporation's rights supercede national riights, labor rights and enviromental rights.
Cheap Labor and increased access to foreign natural resources were the main motivations behind these agreements and the formation of the World Trade Organization.
Since "Free Trade" with China millions of American jobs have gone there and our trade deficit breaks new records every year. In the first 10 years of NAFTA there was a net loss of almost 900,000 jobs to south of the border.
I am against all these undemocratic Corporate Managed Agreements which enrich a few in the U.S. and in the exploited countries while pushing wages down for the majority while polluting the environment in the Southern Hemisphere.

A lot of countries would be better off but some are fine on thier own. You could also look at it like safety in numbers for the smaller countries.
