The US government defines a "large" business as one with more than 500 employees.

So, a medium business would be less than 500.

They don't have a cut-off for a small business, but I would define it as 20 people or less (because many federal laws don't apply to companies with fewer than 20 employees).

So ....

Small = 1 to 20
Medium = 21 to 499
Large = 500+

it's not always the number of people involved,, but that amount of business they do,, in $'s
