Brock is correct in his location. It's a most uncomfortable location to achieve without a lift, a pit, or raising the car. If doing this at home, I'd recommend a pair of ramps. There just isn't enough clearance to work under there. What was wrong with putting them in the engine compartment like we did in the old days???
A warning:
I have never found a source for the special clips that anchor the lines to the filter, and there's a fair chance they'll break from age when you try to remove them. You'll get a new pair in the box with a new filter, but if you were removing it for any reason other than to replace it, you'll be looking for a new filter just to get those clips.

The fuel filter is just in front of the rear passagers wheel, it 12" in from the passagers side, it will have a large hose type clamp on it., Mr. C Anders is right about to clips, the newer Taurus 2004 up have a redesigned clip that's just as bad

If it has any type of fuel injection system, then the pump is in the fuel tank. But, if it has a carb, then the pump is a mechanical version attached to the engine or a electronic version attached somewhere between the engine and the fuel tank.

I on no account, ever, ever desire to think of that i'm infallible. I refuse to think of i be attentive to each little thing, or something, somewhat, and this is this mindset that makes me desire to check. given which you could no longer study in case you already be attentive to, suitable? because of the fact i think of basically suitable expertise of any and all truths is the basically suitable solid, I refuse to have self belief i've got ever reached it. because of the fact what if i've got no longer, and that i end attempting to check? What if I stagnate?
