I used to be friends with these people and they've recently gotten a pit bull and decided to dislike me for whatever reason. They are both on "manic and bi-polar" medications, smoke pot, and are unstable. They now have a pit bull who's been off the leash and on my yard. Police were called and it got more severe since. I've started a repor with the police to build any necessary case to press charges if need be, however, I'm uncomfortable in my own yard. What do I need to do to protect myself, my 2 young children, and quadriplegic husband? I'm afraid that they will now send the dog after me and the dog will attack my child instead. Any suggestions out there on how to handle this?

theres actually a great product on the market out for this, its a little box that plugs into a normal outlet and its a pest repellent, what it does its it emits a very high frequency tone that humans cant hear, its designed for cockroaches and spiders but we had one and had to get rid of it because our dog wouldnt come 25 feet of it and if it did it would whine and be all scared, so my advice to u is buy one of these, there like 20 dollar at home depot, and also they have handheld portable ones of the same kind for dogs, so when your walking and a dog comes up to you u point it at him and hell leave, let me look up the links

Call the police again and talk to them about the proper course of action in case of an attack. I'd consider a stun gun, but I don't know what the law states. I wouldn't take a chance with my children outside without some kind of plan of counter attack. Pit bulls grab hold and don't let go. I'd also have a camera handy to document the dog trespassing onto your property.

Also, call Animal Control or Humane Society in your area and let them know about the problem. They may have suggestions for you, too. These people shouldn't be allowed to have a dog, especially a pit bull. Obviously, they're creating an antagonistic environment. Take care, be safe.

Boy, you are in a tough spot. I really feel for you. I would call animal control every time you see the dogs around with no leash. Keep your kids inside until you get this under control. There are leash laws and the owners can have the dogs taken away if they don't obey the law. Talk to some of your other neighbors and see if they would sign a neighborhood petition to get the dogs removed. Keep calling the police also and keep your eyes open every second, and keep track of everything they have said to you, dates, times ect. Take note everyday on whats going on. Maybe you could get some mace or something like that to have in case one of the dogs tries to attack you, or one of those hand held shocking devices.Protect yourself and refuse to be a victim. God bless and good luck.

Next time the dog is off the leash call the cops. They'll deal with them. It shouldn't be you. At the very least have a bat or two handy inside and outside. Possibly talk with a couple of other neighbours and explain the situation and ask them if you could ask them for help if a problem arises to quickly for the cops to respond to.
Try to go out of your way a bit to find out what became the problem between you and the neighbour. And don't forget to be friendly . Good Luck.

this ain't right but I live in the country and we had a pit bull a Rottweiler and some other dog and they attacked my horse and ran my children in the house a couple times so i called the cops and they said if your fearful shoot them so that's what we did or brake some glass and put it in raw hamburger meat and throw it to the pit it'll end up killing it shortly or let it drink antifreeze if you don't have any pets in your yard put a bowl of antifreeze in YOUR yard and when the dog comes over hell drink it and die as for the people that own the dog if it attacks i sue the pants off of them

In addition to building the case, pursuing the case, and considering building a fence, I'd recommend having water guns filled with ammonia. This is safer than using a gun. Aim for the dog's face, if it comes into your yard at all, much less comes at you. Just make sure your kids understand that the water guns are not for play, but for protection!

Buy your self a 22 calibur automatic that holds from 9 - 11 cartridges in the clip.

Get 22 calibur "Hollowpoint" bullets and load it up.

Always carry this weapon with you, especially when you are out in your yard and if the Beast starts to attack you - keep squeezing off the trigger until it drops and doesn't move any more.

Aim inbetween it's shoulders just under neath its head!

That should do it!

Next time the dog comes into your yard, or your neighbors threaten you call the police, or the SPCA, chances are the dog is being mistreated. You could set up a hidden camera in your yard to record any more incidents

you can press charges for threats of endangerment and I would check into local dogs laws. Pits are very unsafe dogs and most places do have laws against pits off lease not in a fence. I would also maybe contact the local dog catchers if they want to keep letting their dog onto your property (your yard) and have it picked up.

Keep a gun on you. If he ever attacks on your yard, shoot his butt. I don't like guns, but I think this is the right idea. The problem is that pit bulls are horrible animals that shouldn't be allowed, not because they are doing anything wrong, they are just over-bred and badly trained.
