Just wondering when you all think the league will announce if there are any suspensions or anything from the flames/wings game yesterday?

Well, the league shows its true colors yet again....

As a hockey fan I am disgusted! The leauge is embarssed on national television and this is their response. Now the league has embarassed themselves with this decesion. I'm not sure which is more embarassing... The play of the flames or the slap on the wrist they gave the rest of the flames organization.

Iginla admitted that the actions of the flames coaches and players were intentional. He wanted to stir up some anger for the next game.. He went out there with the intentent to injure and the league allows it. Yes, the team was fined, but big whoop. They still get to send out players who intend to injure other teams to get an advantage. God forbid that the league would actually stand up and punish a "star player."

Id like to see how the referees handle this game tonight. They have been so totally "Flames friendly" in the last 2 games in calgary.

Looks like the NHL condones violence excpet if its a fight.

Ha. I was rooting for the Flames in that game but no more. Classless act went completely unpunished.

McLennan: "You can't keep me from playing. I'm already riding the pines!"

The coach and the team get fined in chump change. Hopefully the coach gets fired, maybe that's the only thing that can send a message to the league.

Iginla gets a meaningless penalty and he doesn't even get fined. How on earth do you explain that? He's the captain of the team. If anything, he should be held to a higher standard as a superstar and captain. Instead, he get off free. This is the part of the decision that really burns me. Suspend him, even if it's just for 2 games. Snuff out any hope of the Flames advancing--it's well within their rights to do so.

On VS. they said something like "The league said 'we will not tolerate this and we need to send a message.' Amen to that."

What message?? I'm sorry, but nothing serious happened to the Flames. This was a perfect chance for them to make an example out of a team and a superstar. Instead, they blew it.

Go Wings go.

The reason Frazen laughed was because it was only a half way swing on that slash anyway, and as he stated, clearly Kiprusoff is the man for Calgary anyway. McLennan can be replaced by you or I since he will only warm the pines anyway. The bottom line in this whole mess is that if the referees, on input from the league office would start to enforce the rules regarding goaltender interference nearly as diligently as they do the chintzy hooks and holds, goaltenders wouldn't have to strike out on their own to defend their turf. I'm not pointing the finger at the Wings for running Kiprusoff either, every team is doing it. Almost every playoff game this season has featured at least one ridiculously obvious "crash of the net" but few have been called. Going hard to the net is part of hockey, but running over the goalie when you get there is not. When it comes to high sticking, the rules state that players have to be in control of their stick at all times. Surely it's not too much of a reach to expect a professional hockey player to have more control over his body when he heads towards the net. These guys are incredibly solid on their blades when they want to be, but a slight touch sends them reeling through a goaltender when the oppourtunity presents itself. Time will tell if the NHL under the guru Bettman is sharp enough to treat the McLellan incident as a stepping off point for better enforcement of the rules of the game as they apply to play in the goal crease area.

Well they already have. They did it right to in the fines on the team and coach. Suspending the player COULD hurt more then we think, but not likely. After all what are the chances of the starter going down, and a BUM like that as a back-up probably wouldn't be missed and you could just pull a fan out of the stands to do as good as that jerk did.

I think these types of responses may come on the first weekday following the incident. Or at least waiting until Monday may be an excuse for taking some time to think about it.

p.s. These types of incidents should be considered an embarassment - but what's even more embarassing is that few are actually embarrassed about them (and listening to some of the quotes, not much responsibility is accepted - which says a lot about a lot).

Who cares about McClennan...what about Ignila's butt-end on Schneider? The captain is supposed to be the leader of the team and I agree with the announcers of that game....Wing are leading 5-1 under 2 minutes to play what is he even doing on the ice?

Mclennan just got 5 games. Playfair was fined $25,000. Team was fined $100,000. That is it. Another slap on the wrist from the league.

Calgary Golie suspended 5 games, Calgary coach fined 25,000 and the team fined 100,000! Personally I think there should have been more suspensions.

there should of been simon gets 20 games for his stick Iggy was iffy one angle looked like a spear another one wasn't. Mcclennan for five is a joke. this is why the instigator needs to go let players police themselves,
