I am confused! What is the square root of 34a^2+4

you can factor out a '2' --> = 2(17a^2 +2), but that is as far as it goes.

I don't think it can be simplified...

34 = 2*17 so you can't factor out a 4 from it.

You can't factor it because there's no such thing as a "sum of squares".
