NOW, i have heard that peoplecan make their own mix with sugar and water. but im not sure how much...

ive heard it was 3parts water, and 1 part sugar. is this right?

what do you use??

thanks!

Humming Bird Nectar Recipe:

1 Part granulated sugar (1 Cup)

4 Parts Water (4 Cups)

Bring water to rolling boil for one minute. Pour over sugar and mix until well dissolved. Allow to cool completely. Fill feeders with cooled mix. NO coloring is needed. It is recommended you NOT use food coloring.

I have what is called a Spider that is right outside my window. I have 2 Humming bird feeders hanging on it plus one wild bird feeder and 4 hanging baskets with real flowers in them. I watch all the birds coming to eat there all the time while I am setting here at my computer. So far (knock on wood) have never had a problem with any of the birds that come here to eat.

4 parts water, 1 part sugar (NOT honey).
Bring water to a boil and stir in sugar. Boil for 2 -3 minutes. Let cool before you pour into feeders. Unused nectar can be stored tightly covered in fridge for about a week.

Hi Jordan. All these are very good answers. I must stress, do not use honey or any artificial sweeteners. Also, food coloring is not necessary. Be sure to clean your feeders with soap and water often. On another note, last year I bought "Ant Guards" from Petsmart. The ant guard really does work and I highly recommend! Good luck!

Yes - that is the ratio I use. You can do a 4/1 ratio but they tend to like it sweeter this time of year as they migrate.

i use a half cup suger, and 1 cup water. mix until dissolved then add 2 drops of red food coloring and you're done. (the food coloring can actually be any color, I tried blue and they loved it)
