I am consdering interviewing for a job in Olathe, making more money than where I am at here in OK. Is there anyone that lives in Olathe that can give me a little inside on the town and area. I am a single male, looking to live in a moderate sized city which has things to do but Cost-of-living is not very high. I have wanted to live in Tulsa for ages, but nothing ever comes open there? How is the area as far as crime, education, clubs and nitelife entertainment?

To the above answerer, I'm sure you mean well, but you are incorrect repeatedly.
Olathe is a very big suburb south of Kansas City about 30 minutes south on I-35. There is tons to do and the cost of living is very low there, just like it is in most parts of the Kansas City area. Olathe has a mall called the Great Mall of the Great Plains which is an outlet mall. Olathe has some very nice and large newer homes and it also has all the way down to small apartments. Of course there is every grocery store there that you could need, a couple of WalMarts and a Target among Home Depots, a large hospital and more.
If you get bored of the bars and resturaunts there in Olathe (there are several) then you can always take a short drive downtown to Kansas City and hang out in Westport or the Plaza. You can also take a drive about 35-40 minutes and check out Kansas City, Kansas. KCK has the Legends Shopping Center which includes Dave & Busters, Cabela's, Hooters and lots more shopping. The Legends also has a really cool adult bowling alley called pin up bowl.

I used to live in Emporia, then Lawrence. I visited Olathe a few times. I can't tell you a great deal, but being as close as you are to KC and Lawrence (huge college town), you won't be hurting for things to do. Olathe itself doesn't get a lot going on.
There are a few shopping areas which I found dreadfully boring. I'd rather just go to Massachusetts Ave. in Lawrence for all of the local shops or to KC.
Because it is often considered a Kansas suburb, you may have a higher cost of living than you expected, but I'm not totally sure. Try the link below.
I'm not sure about crime and the like, but again, you are so close to so many other cities that you have a lot of options.
Hope that helps.

I've lived in Olathe almost my entire life. Its not a big city, 90,000 people or so. Very safe - cops don't have a lot of real crime to deal with so they spend most of their time busting speeders. Cost of living isn't too bad, the west side of town (older side) is a lot cheaper than the east side. The education in all of Johnson County Kansas is excellent. As far as night life - not much at all in Olathe, but it's only 20-30 minute drive to some great places in Kansas City depending on what you're in to.

Olathe has some ups and downs. You can get a lot of house for your money, but it is becoming congested. Depending on where you work, you could easily live in Overland Park or any of the other suburbs in Johnson County. There isn't a whole lot of "cool" things to do in Olathe, but there are plenty of amenities like restaurants, shopping, etc. Personally, I don't care for it because traffic can be a real mess, most of the retail/restaurants are franchises, oh and I don't speak Spanish.

Having lived in both Tulsa and Johnson Count (never actually in Olathe, but close enough) I can tell you that if you like Tulsa, you'll love Olathe. Great education, low crime, good nightlife (although not "in" Olathe, but close enough) -- great place for a single guy.

There is a wide range of apartments for rent in Olathe. the rent is alot higher East of I-35, There is a wide varity of affordable apartments and duplexes for rent ot the West side in the orginal part of town but the trains sure make a lot of noise as they pass through town. They have started raising the tracks so the whisles and crossing gates will be silent.
There is plenty of nightclubs and bars however the city of Olathe has baned smokeing in all of them with the exception of private clubs and a few of the bars have converted to private clubs in order to allow smokeing.
