Why do people find a point in listening to music that means nothing? They artists dont play the instruments they throw their voice into a computer and change it so much it dosent sound like them anymore. Why cant those people listen to real music that means somthing music that sounds better live than it does on the CD.
The White Stripes use recording studious that haven't been changed since the 70s, they record their CDs in a week, it takes Rappers years to release a 12 song album. It takes bands like the Stripes a week.
Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the moon is the most selling album in the history of music, it was on the top 100 billboard for a total 15 years. Most rap albums wont be remembered in two.

I think ive made my point.
Peace.

I have to agree with you. I like all kinds of music except rap, because there is no vocal talent. Looking at the rappers of today, it looks as if someone drove through the poorest sections of the world and asked anyone with lots of bling and shiny grills if they want a record contract. All rappers need a wake up call. I feel the rap industry capitalizes on image, not talent. It is a shame for those that truly are talented singers who can't get a record contract, yet we give one to someone who can't speak properly, or clearly. For example...another word for conversation is CONVERSE not CONVERSATE. They make up their own vocabulary and it becomes real words.

Rap is a disgrace to the music industry. I have to admit, some of the beats are amazing in the music, but all of the vocals suck. If I wanted to hear spoken word, I would go to a college lecture.

BUT freedom of speech is a wonderful thing, and if rappers want to keep rapping, then more power to them. I just turn the station.

ok bro, the reason a lot of us listen to rap is because we get bored with the rock instruments its all the same just flipped around rap has somthing so different, sure rap nowadays sux but underground rap or hardcore or old school its real music because it has creativity and originality rock is always guitar drums and boring. Most rappers take a while because they make remixes and mixtapes too and they perfect the beat. The reason those white stripes do it in a week is because its the same stuff .....i thinkits about tatse and i think rock has a nasty taste well whatever peace 2 u 2 bro have fun with your white stripes

Amen to that! The sad thing is that the black race have had a rich history of musical contributions : gospel, blues, jazz, jump blues, R&B, doowop ,soul, funk, disco, quiet storm etc dating back to the beginning of the 20th century. I'm white but most of the songs I really love are by black artists.

The old school rap from the 80's had some merit to it. The songs contained some important social messages and there was a minimum of profane and violent language. The advent of gangsta rap with its migoynistic and anti-social lyrics turned me completely off. The rappers and record companies that promote this crap don't care how it affects the young kids, of all races, who listen to it as long as they're making their bling bling,

FYI, I know many black people who can 't stand rap either.

How many rock songs have a message like,
"Won't enter another's perspective, corrective lenses
Are somethin' that I wear, so I can see the globe real clear
Look, there's famine over there, plus the families in fear
Of disease and distress that lingers in the air
These are the words of a man in purgatory
Words of a simpleton living in oblivion
Is this the model for life you're envisionin
free as can be in a world of imprisonment?"

"The planet evolves supposedly man evolves but no problem is solved because man is the cause."

" I'm, a rebel in a system that don't give a {****},
Where CEO's feed your death,
To earn a buck,
And people get stuck,
Followin the trends,
Of a TV generation,
But where does it end?
You can say amen,
But you really got to feel it,
Then every time you see a snake,
You'll reveal it."

Seriously, stop judging hip-hop until you've heard it. You may think you've heard it on the radio, but you have no idea.

i agree with you completely. I am a John F. fan, and am into psych/funk music of other forms as well. Mostly i like arty rock like Pink Floyd. But you must remember rap hasnt always been a synonym for materialism, it used to be that groups like Run DMC and Public Enemy made quite a lot of sense in their lyrics. THis trend was carried on by several rock bands like Rage Against the Machine, but somewhere along the line, the world lost its taste for an ascetic lifestyle, for renegades who fought against conformity, and then we were left with people who cared about little aside from what they wear and how they look. This group of people amplified their ideas into the very catch form of rap music and transformed the once very purposeful genre into a label of diluting in wealth and a lavish lifestyle. We must change our attitudes, and then only will the music change.

I know! I hate rap music! I can't stand it. It's the only music that's around today so that's why I don't even listen to today's music. Rappers aren't talented, they don't play instruments. That's why I love Rock music. (only from the 70's and 80's) They're actually talented. All rap songs sound the same and the songs are about killing people, doing drugs or degrading women.

I guess no thumbs up for me.

I am an old guy who loves country (I here it yuck) but oddly I like some rap. I'm an old rocker from the old days also.

I like the rap that comes from the gut. I see it as an expression of, and a window into another way of life.

Hope it makes sense.

I understand some of your point....I believe that people should return to more socially conscious music which includes artists primarily in the realms of rock and r & b.
