The People We’re Allowed to Hate?
By Jennifer Knapp
In Phir Milenge, Tamana must overcome prejudice and discrimination to clear her professional reputation, get back the career she sacrificed so much for, and most importantly, find justice.
Shilpa Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan, and Salman Khan star in Phir Milenge or Until We Meet Again, a movie that tackles a topic still considered taboo in India. In a film industry where holding hands is pushing the envelope, a film about the HIV virus is bound to make a huge impression on the general public. For a country that has the second highest number of HIV cases in the world though, such an impression is needed. It was not just the high number of cases, however, that inspired director Revathy Menon to make this movie, but the fact that discrimination is so common. She casts Shilpa Shetty as the beautiful protagonist who contracted the disease. Shetty, up until now, has been taking on a wide variety of roles, some less noteworthy than others. She has worked with Khan before in 1997's Auzaar, but still managed to go unnoticed.

Salman Khan was driving rashly under the influence of alcohol, in spite of warnings from the Police Constable. According to me, he had committed a crime even before he drove over the pavement. But this crime is committed by 100s of people every day in our country and is not practical to put each of them behind the bars. [alternative ??]. But definitely, when he ran them over he is culpable - homicide or otherwise. There are others culpable as well... but that's another story.
To make matters worse, he fled the scene... His explanation being that he was being beaten up by a mob. Would the mob touch him, if his initial reaction was to rush to the victims and try and administer first aid ?? Never. He would be a real life star if he did. People would have long forgotten that he caused the "accident" (which could have been avoided) and remembered him as a messiah who helped. But this super star does not even offer to help. An hour or so later... Arbaaz khan returns back to the scene. Again not with the intention of helping the victims but to threaten those who beat up his kid brother. Truly atrocious.
