I'm probably going to mess it up, but its funny, I guess when heard. Spelling is wayyy off, but for the sake of yahoo..here goes:
So...A Greek guy and a Cypriot guy are talking and the Greek guy says " Kala, oli sas edo stin kupro eisaste koubari?"
and the Cyrpiot guy responds "Kai eseis stin ellada eisaste oli malakes?"
I find it really funny. You have to really understand both sides, in order to understand the joke. If someone needs an explanation...well, i'll post one later. This is my favorite joke.

In Cyprus wedding at old times there used to be a custom were guests of the wedding could sign up (pay a few pounds) as a present to the couple and then they could be "best man" aswell. Even though there was still THE best man or first best man or protokoumparos in greek, there were others who could be best men aswell. And considering the amount of people invited in a cypriot wedding (sometimes whole villages) it ended up having hundreds of best men around and considering also the population of Cyprus which is not a lot, we all ended up being best men to each other lol.
I know it sounds silly but I guess it was a way for the couple to get more money.
Anyway thats the reason I think for koubarous in Cyprus, now I dont know about malakas hehehehe

This is words from nice song. To understand this meaning - it's must to understand the whole song ! Long to explain. Some jokes it's impossible to translate to other languages. They sound good only in original language. P.S. I understand-speak 14-15 languages. But jokes I understand only in 5 languages which I speak Very Good or Fluent.

In Cyprus people call one another "koumbare" as in "Ti kaneis re koumbare" whether they are related in that fashion or not. Conversely in Greece everybody calls one another "Malaka". Just wonder how accurate that is!

Hehe..I didn't get it at fist.Koumparos means "best man",in the wedding ,you know.Malakas means,literally,wan...ker , as.. shole.
Apparently, all cypriots call them selfs,in a way of intimity or good intentions best man, e.g. "hey,"best man" ,how do you do?It does not sound good in english but that's the translation.
Correspondingly,in Greece,in a strange way,we call its other, when there is intimacy between us, wanker , f.e. "hey "wan..ker",where are we going to meet tonight?".
As I see it now,it's not going to sound good to non-greeks but it's quite funny in a strange way.
