They both occured at the same time while I was playing golf, so it seems they may have been triggered by allergies??? It is very uncomfortable. I have been putting hot compresses on my eyes and taking Benadryl. Not sure if I should call an eye doctor or an allergist. Also was hoping for advice on what I can do to lessen the pain until I can get in to see a doctor.

I actually just went to the eye doctor for the same thing about 1.5 months ago. He said that is indicative of seasonal eye allergies. He told me to go to the pharmacy and get "Zatador". It's an over the counter eye drop. Use it every 12 hours in each eye. It worked like a charm for me. Now when I start getting symptoms I just use those and it clears right up.

It might be allergy, but there are two other eyelid problems: sty and chalazian. These also occur on or inside eyelids and look like bumps. At the beginning they start with pain, redness and all other signs of inflammation and then after about two days the heat, redness and pain goes away and the bumps remain. Sty occur at the margins of eyelashes and goes away within a week, while chalazian takes longer to disappear. Applying hot compresses is best for both and applying three times a day for 10-15 min. will be effective. If the bumps remains ask your doctor to refer you to eyelid specialist not eye specialist. Sty and chalazian usually occur in people who have excessive oily skin & or scalp. I know more about it if you need to ask. take care!

You are doing the right thing placing hot compresses on the eyelids for at least five minutes, do this three times daily. Continue the Benadryl. Use lubricating eye drops frequently to stop the scratching sensation. If this does not feel better by tomorrow see an eye specialist.

Good moisturing, lubricating eye drops would give you some relief and calm down the irritation while you are waiting to be seen by an eye doctor. They are available in the drug store.

The best way to get rid of this problem is to cut your eyelids off. Ha ha.
