Mine stopped working this winter on my 2001. Took it in and had to have the linkage changed because it had rusted solid and siezed.

If you hear the motor working, it is probably okay, but I would not use the wipers if they are not turning or you may blow that motor and then have more to repair.

If you did not start the wipers this winter while they were frozen to the windshield on any day, then you most likely have the same problem I did.

Replacing the linkage at the GM or Saturn dealer is anywhere from $400 to $600, depending on how much they need to change.

Things to watch out for:

1) When they changed my linkage they had to pry off the wiper blade assembly, and managed to chip the paint on the hood near the base of the wiper.

2) On my 2001, they had to remove part of the dash to get at some of the components, and when they put it back in there, they hooked up my radio power supply loosely, which came off after a week or two later. I had to spend a Saturday pulling apart the dash just to hook up the radio again (I originally thought it was a fuse on the back of the radio until I saw that pushing the harness back on snugly solved the problem.)

Do the wiper arm's move together and very easy, if they do the wiper linkage may have came off the wiper motor, you'll have to remove the cover and snap it back on, this may work for a short time you'll need to replace the wiper linkage or the wiper transmission.
